“If he says it’s a left-five-minus over crest, it’s a left-five-minus
over crest, As a driver, it’s
comforting to have confidence in the person sitting next to you” U.S. rally legend
John Buffum, July 2007 “You were absolutely a major factor in our performance …” Ramana Lagemann,
February 2007 "... and you’re a big part of me getting faster." Antoine L’Estage,
Équipe Rallye Coyotes, June 2006 "... Mark is just the whole package ... he knows notes, he knows
the events and he is fun in the car. ...
I'm lucky to have him." Lauchlin O’Sullivan, Mitsubishi Motor Sports “…you contributed in no small way to the success of both the Team and
Tom [McGeer] himself. You not only
increased his confidence, but took him to a new level, in a very short amount
of time.” Subaru Rally Team "...luck played a part, I'm sure, but I also had skilled

Mark A.
Williams is one of the most sought after co-drivers in A recent article about Mark's 150th rally milestone appears here. Williams’
wealth of skill and experience has repeatedly helped turn drivers into
champions and transform rally teams into consistent winners. The wisdom attained from 151 rally starts,
72 podium finishes and 40 wins at WRC and National-championship events
enables Mark to establish the right pace, assist in the car setup, direct
team operations and make the right
strategic and tactical decisions to achieve winning results. Over the last fourteen years Williams’
proficiency has helped four different teams, including three car manufacturers, attain twelve National and International
series championships. In 2007 Mark was retained by 3 different drivers - Paul Choiniere, Ramana Lagemann and Antoine L'Estage - to help get each of them one of the only 7 qualifying Rally Car Racing positions in the 2007 Summer X-Games 13. He succeeded in getting all three into the big show, and chose to compete there alongside Ramana Lagemann. After a horrific crash during practice followed by a heroic repair by Cascade Motorsport, Mark and Ramana made it all the way to the Bronze Medal Round where they lost by less than 1 second to Travis Pastrana. In 2006 Mark focused his
competition efforts on enhancing the performance of rising Canadian star
Antoine L’Estage.
With Mark’s help Antoine earned the 2006 Canadian National Rally
Championship. Once this goal was
achieved Mark swapped seats with co-driver Nathalie Richard to support Earlier Mark
contributed to the unprecedented string of championship wins at Team
Mitsubishi Motor Sports During his
4-year tenure with Mark
further fuels his passion for rallying through participation in historic
stage rallies around the world.
Successes include winning the prestigious La Carrera Panamericana
Mexico in a 1954 Mercury Monterey which now rests on display at a museum; 3rd
overall at the inaugural Targa Newfoundland in his thunderous 1964 Ford
Falcon Rally Sprint; and participation in Williams
is also involved in the organizational aspects of the sport as an event
Steward and as the producer of “stage notes” – the detailed descriptions of
the stage roads that are provided by event organizers to all
competitors. He is currently the
Director of Competitions and Course Manager for the Targa Newfoundland rally – a
marathon tarmac event for historic through modern vehicles which was named to
the list of "Editor's Choice 2003 - 20 Things that rocked our
World" by Grassroots Motorsports magazine. Mark also served as a member
of the SCCA Performance Rally Board from 1990 through 1994 and as the
chairman of this former rally governing body in 2000 and 2001. With
a Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence from Mark
is also a principal at Motoring
Event Services providing expert timing, routing, stage noting and
advising services to rallying and touring events. |
